A Pillar of Better
A genuine friend will have enough courage to tell you in love, "Don't Be Bitter" knowing you won't take it the wrong way because the friendship is firm. They will have the strength and confidence in the friendship to say those words rather then the alternative; You have every right to be bitter and mad so I don't blame you. However, lately a couple friends let me know that all though injustice has been done and there is every right to be angry don't be. My friends are one I have known for many, many years, and the other just a couple. The genuine of friendship is in the honesty and firmness of it's bond, the heart being true.
So when they said, "Don't Be Bitter" or make you become bitter; perhaps they know there is evidence for one to be bitter and have it justified. But rather "Choose" not to be and become bitter. The two don't know each other and said this at different times and they were both said in a random conversation. But it was the Lord speaking through them because only He knows what's going on in the heart. Yes, God will get you where your heart is.
Now if your reading this and it makes no sense, it's ok perhaps it's not for you. But if it's making you think and something is tugging at your heart let's see and take a second look at it.
The bible says that, Offence will come (Luke 17:1) and everyone who lives righteous will suffer persecution (2 Timothy 3:12). Offence and Persecution will come and the temptation to lash back at it in vengence is so there. However, there is a way to escape it according to 1 Corinthians 10:13. I take note on He will make a way to escape. There's a way to go, but will you take that way or stay in the offences...
Let's take at look at Lot and his family in Genesis 19:15-17
And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
Here we see a way being made for them to escape into the mountains and the word was said to "Look not behind and neither stay in the plain, but escape." However, Lot's wife looked back instead of going in the way directed to escape in the way that told. Instead she stayed in the plain and looked back.
Proverbs 23:7 says, For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he...
But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. Genesis 19:26.
Salt to me signifies Bitterness. And although there was a way to escape for all of the family, not all of them made it out. That which was in her heart, she became a pillar of salt, Lot's wife. Makes sense to me. Perhaps her temptation and the offence was to great. Maybe she said, "How dare God tell me to Leave this place, I'm comfortable!" Either way there was a way to escape. However, she Chose not to escape but stayed and looked back. That stuff was meant to have stayed behind her. Her husband had her back as well if she were to fall while she was moving forward to escape. However, she even looked past his protection and looked further beyond at the offense. The temptation was too great, enough to look back. She ignored God's word and her husbands protection and became a pillar of salt.
Don't be bitter, Don't become bitter because if you do look back and keep looking back at all those offences and persecutions, we are so at risk to become that which we think about. Ever notice how some people when they talk or even confront you are sharp in words and can't be around them because they are always negative and they wear a frown on their faces. Perhaps they have become spiritual pillars of salt from constantly looking back at past offences and staying in all the plain of the problem rather then choosing to escape and look forward...
Something to think about. I know I have. Today I choose not to be bitter. I'm grateful for my two friend who have said Don't Be Bitter because it can effect you eventually. Coincidentally my friend even said, I want to look at your face to see how you look. I hope she can know that it's not bitterness you'll see my friend, but Love. For he that loveth, knows God for God is Love.
Again, this was for me and it's a testimonial that offences will come and the way to escape is don't look back in bitterness any more. Look forward to fruitfulness. Don't stay in the plain, head to the mountains, continue forward. Don't be bitter be Better, A Pillar of Better.
Psalms 121:1-2
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
