An Idol In The Heart
Here's a thought to ponder on...
Deuteronomy 10:12 ...what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,
Perhaps when our family, friend's, leader's or mentor's fail us it's because we have placed them in such a high standard in our heart. So much so, it's grieving to our spirit when they disappoint us often; that's when we know it became or was a idol in our heart.
We all fail yet, we have seen them as they can do no wrong or shouldn't make mistakes, live with no margin of error. We try to live by their level of living instead of being what God said to be...
Be like Christ look to HIM. Be like Jesus not the Jones.
This verse comes to mind:
Matthew 10:35-28 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

There is this song that we sing in Michigan at church. I don't know who the original author of the song is.
"To keep your lovely face
Ever before my eyes
This is my prayer
Make it my heart's desire
That in my secret heart
No other love competes
No other throne survives
Lord I serve only you."
So, perhaps when our family, friend's, leader's or mentor's fail us it's because we have placed them in a standard in our heart that only the Lord belongs. They have became a secret idol. Perhaps it may be other things that we have placed as idols beside people; it can be things as well.
May we keep the Lord's face ever before us and may we keep Him in the throne of our heart. For He will never fail us and man will.
May we love the Lord will all our heart, mind, and soul.
Instead of being critical at the failures and faults of others be merciful. Let us be reminded that they to are but dust just like we are and the Lord is eternal, perfect in every way.
Something that is perfect will never change because it's already been perfected therefore, it cannot and will not fail us. May we look to the Lord our God and give grace and mercy to all, for we all fall short of the glory.
